REQUIREMENT

Application Concept

The FACTS device (or suite of devices) will be implemented as a supra-second device; it will only model components and behavior expressed at levels greater than 1 second. The device(s) will also include suitable control modes for operation at distribution level voltages.

Use Case

The FACTS device(s) will be used to explore the use of power electronic devices for volt-var control / optimization and power quality issues.

General Requirements

The FACTS device(s) will model the steady-state behavior and appropriate control methods TBD.

R1

This capability will be implemented as a single new class.

R2

The model will only support greater than one second behavior (not sub-second).

R3

The model will support multiple control modes TBD.

R3.1

TBD: Control mode 1.

R3.2

TBD: Control mode 2.

R4

The model will be geared towards distribution level voltage control.

R4.1

Where possible, the model shall be created flexible enough for extension to additional applications (i.e., building or transmission).

R5

The model will support multiple types of FACTS devices.

R5.1

The model will support a static-var compensator (SVC) model.

R5.2

The model will support a static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) model.
